Remanufacture of Nissan Bus engine mounts

Client: Spec R&M Ltd, Ashburton
Challenge: Spec R&M Ltd approached Vibratech for the remanufacture of two different engine mounts for a Nissan bus. Despite exhaustive efforts to source genuine replacement parts from Japan, there was no assurance that the ordered parts would match the originals. The deteriorated mounts prevented the vehicle from passing COF (Certificate of Fitness) requirements, necessitating a reliable and precise remanufacture.


Solution: Upon receiving the worn mounts, Vibratech conducted a thorough measurement of critical dimensions and rubber hardness to ensure exact replication of the original specifications. The remanufacturing process involved:
Preparation:
Stripping the old rubber from the metal components.
Meticulous preparation of all bonding surfaces for the vulcanizing process.
Moulding and Assembly:
Designing and building a moulding jig to align and position all components accurately.
Assembling the components with new rubber, followed by compression and curing in the vulcanizing press.



3. Quality Assurance:
Inspecting the completed mounts for defects and verifying dimensions.
Applying a coat of black zinc anti-corrosive paint for added durability.
Outcome: The remanufactured engine mounts met all original specifications, allowing the Nissan bus to pass COF requirements and return to service. Simon from Spec R&M Ltd expressed satisfaction with the results, stating, “They worked out spot on, thanks.”
